Arrowine

In an attempt to get to know our sponsors for the first annual Farm-to-Street Party, we have reached out to Arrowine to answer a few questions for us about their business and their motivation. Arrowine is a “neighborhood” store, but it’s high quality products have a national reputation. Excellent service, superb products and exceptional value are just some of the things that sets this business apart. We are truly excited to be working with them and we hope that you will check them out at www.arrowine.com.

Business Name: Arrowine
Owner/Contact: Kathryn Carter

So what’s the deal with Arrowine?
“Arrowine was started over 30 years ago as a destination for fine wine, cheese, and other specialty food that was quite rare for that time.”

Why is it important to shop locally?
“We support artisans, farmers, and producers, both globally and locally, because of the high quality of the products. In other words, we are prefer to buy from local sources if the products are high quality but will not buy inferior products just because it’s local.”

What makes the DC area a great place?
“The DC area is a fantastic area to work in because the residents are extremely excited about wine and fine food, they are well traveled and like to enjoy the finer things in life, which we think revolve around food, wine, and enjoying them with friends and family.”

Why are you excited about being involved with the Eat Local First Farm-to-Street Party?
“We are excited to be a part of ELF because we feel appreciation for local products should be increased. It is important to us that people be educated and reminded that local farms and producers can only exist with help from everyday citizens.”

Any big news from the Arrowine team?
“We are excited to that one of our own cheesemongers, Katie Carter, is beginning her own cheesemaking operation, Afina Handmade Cheese, right here in the DC area. We look forward to selling her cheese and watching her company grow.”
